Showers and thunderstorms will highlight Memorial Day Monday

A level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather is in place for most of Central Georgia tomorrow.

MACON, Ga. — Sunday shaped up to be a great day for graduation celebrations and outdoor activities for the long weekend. We’ll continue the mostly clear weather into tonight, where lows will struggle to drop below the 70-degree mark.

We have quite a pattern change ahead on Memorial Day tomorrow. A line of showers and storms will approach from the northwest via a cold front. Models are not doing a very good job of  how much organization this line of rain will have as it moves into central Georgia. So even though the models are showing lots of disorganizing as the front pushes into central Georgia, it will all be very dependent on how much sunshine we receive in the morning hours to create a warm environment for storms to fire up.

We are in a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather tomorrow with the main concern being damaging winds, but the potential for hail and a spin-up tornado are there as well. For any plans for the holiday tomorrow, the mornings and early afternoon hours will be best to be outdoors, as the line doesn’t look to make an entrance till around the 2 PM hour and persist into the evening hours.

After this front clears on Tuesday, we will look to dry out slightly. Temperatures will drop back below the 90-degree mark for the remainder of the week and only slim sprinkle chances look to be present for the midweek. Another system will bring rain sometime later next weekend, but otherwise it looks to be a pretty great first unofficial week of summer.
