Crawford County man sentenced to prison for child abuse, per district attorney’s office

They say the man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for three counts of child abuse.

MACON, Ga. — A Crawford County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of child abuse, according to a press release from Macon District Attorney Anita Howard’s office

They say James Franklin Davis, 42, pleaded guilty to three counts of child abuse, and one count of interfering with government property for crimes in Peach and Crawford County.

They say Davis began a relationship with a 16-year-old female victim in 2020 – when he was 37 – and proceeded to attack her repeatedly. They say their relationship continued for several years, maintained through physical threats and mental abuse.

According to the release, officers from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office arrested Davis in July 2023 for assaulting the victim in front of two children. They say Davis refused to comply with orders from law enforcement, and damaged jail property.

“The victim in this case was a child when the abuse began,” Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard said. “It’s very common for abusers to target vulnerable victims like this child and lure them in with attention, kindness and gifts, only to abuse them as the relationship continues. As Domestic Violence Month comes to an end this week, I want to congratulate this young woman for her courage to cooperate with prosecutors and to help us seek a measure of justice for her and her family.”
