‘No piece of information is too small’ | GBI requesting public help in death of Navy sailor

25-year-old Devin Jeter was found dead in the Ocmulgee river this week. They are still working to find his rental car.

TELFAIR COUNTY, Ga. — The GBI is asking for your help in the death of a Navy sailor.

25-year-old Devin Jeter was found dead in the Ocmulgee River this week.

Originally from Dekalb County, Jeter was reported missing after not arriving at his naval station in Jacksonville, Florida.

The GBI reports that he was last seen at the Atlanta airport renting a car from Enterprise one week ago.

A fisherman was out on the Ocmulgee River near Lumber City and discovered Jeter’s body at 12:55 p.m. on Monday.

Now Telfair County Sheriff Sim Davidson is asking for the public’s help.

“We really don’t have any leads, we really don’t have any other information,” Davidson told 13WMAZ. “We want anybody this information to come forward because we really don’t have a lot to go on. We found this body and outside of that, we don’t know how it got here, we don’t know how long it was here. We’re still looking for the vehicle that he had rented.”

The GBI says he rented a 2024 Silver Jeep Compass to make the drive to naval base where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy as a Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd Class.

When he didn’t show up at the base, fellow sailors alerted his family that he was missing.

The Atlanta Police Department was investigating before the Telfair County Sheriff’s Department took over, but they soon requested the GBI’s help.

“Anything – I mean anything like the GBI said in the statement, no piece of information is too small,” Davidson said.

The GBI is urging anyone who may have information on Jeter’s disappearance and death or anyone who saw his rental car between Atlanta and Lumber City to contact the GBI regional investigative office in Eastman at 478-374-6988 or the GBI tip line at 1-800-597-TIPS.
