Detention officer arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting inmate: GBI

The 39-year-old man from Lithonia was arrested on Monday. GBI said it was asked by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office to investigate allegations that the detention officer had sexually assaulted an inmate. 

He was booked into the Barrow County Jail, and GBI said he was charged with sexual assault against a person in custody and violation of oath by a public officer. 

The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the bureau’s regional officer in Athens at 706-552-2309. GBI said that once it completes its investigation, the case file will be given to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit for prosecution.
