Manchester High School student killed in deadly Columbus shooting, police and school confirm
Officials said there would be on-campus resources for students and noted that a second student, unnamed, was injured in the same incident.
MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. — The community at Manchester High School is mourning the death of one of its students, according to Meriwether County Schools on Sunday.
Daryus Bryant was identified as the deceased student and was described as someone who “excelled both in athletics and academics.”
“His ultimate passing will undoubtedly cause concern and raise questions within our community, but we remain committed to supporting each other during this challenging time,” the school district noted in a Facebook post.
According to a police report from Columbus, Georgia, officers responded to Macon Road on Saturday concerning “shots fired.”
There, officers found two vehicles with bullet holes and two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the hospital. It was there that Bryant succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The other victim, Clarence Flavors, was rushed into surgery, according to the report.
Bryant’s family posted photos of him heading to prom earlier that day. His uncle Arkeious Grier posted the following:

The district’s statement concluded, “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Bryant family, and we wish them peace during this difficult time.”
11Alive is working to gather details on just what exactly happened with Bryant.
The district noted that the Columbus Police Department is handling the investigation into Byrant’s death. They noted any questions about the incident should be directed to the Violent Crimes Unit of the Columbus Police Department at 706-225-3161.
This marks the second student at Manchester High School to have died in the last four months.
Last December, Brandon Smith, 17, a player on Manchester High’s football team, was found shot and killed on the eve of his high school’s state title championship game.
