‘Expect delays’ | Car hauler fire shuts down I-16 east in Laurens County, 1 lane since reopened

GDOT’s 511 website said it started at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

But the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is advising people to avoid the area.

The fire happened near mile marker 56 and the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office says the department of transportation is redirecting traffic onto highway 441 at Exit 51.

They encourage drivers to take alternative routes.

“Please avoid the area and expect delays,” the sheriff’s office said.

This is a developing story. We will provide more information when it becomes available.
