East Macon house fire damages home, nobody hurt

Officials on the scene say the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

MACON, Ga. — An East Macon fire damaged a home, but officials on the scene say that nobody was hurt.

It happened Wednesday night at 1746 Hamilton Drive in East Macon.

Roughly three fire engines responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire.

Chief Shane Edwards says the fire caused “moderate” damage to the home, but the fire was contained to one room. A window at the front of the home was shattered and debris were scattered in front of the building.

They say nobody was home at the time of the fire, but the homeowner’s German Shepherd dog was there when the fire broke out. The dog was unharmed, Edwards said.

After the fire was contained, the dog wandered the scene approaching firefighters and onlookers.

Officials say an arson investigator came to the scene. While officials say the investigator believed they knew what caused the fire, they say the cause is still under investigation.

However, Edwards says that the cause of the fire appears to be accidental.
