19-year-old arrested in connection to 50-year-olds murder from 2023, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said
The Sheriff’s Office said 19-year-old Brian Latrell Colbert Jr. was arrested around 5 p.m. at the Dempsey Apartments. They had been searching for him since April
MACON, Ga. — A man was arrested Sunday in connection with the death of a 50-year-old man, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Brian Latrell Colbert Jr., 19, was arrested without incident around 5 p.m. at the Dempsey Apartments in downtown Macon.
Colbert faces charges of murdering 50-year-old Brian Matthew Brown on Nov. 26, 2023.
According to previous reporting, Brown was shot early that morning at the Lokchapee Landing apartments in north Macon.
Brown walked outside and shortly after gunshots rang out. His wife, Sylvia Rose-Brown, says he was outside checking an alarm near his truck.
When authorities arrived, he was found with a single gunshot wound was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office named Colbert as a suspect and began searching for him in late April. He was found three months later.
In addition to the murder charges, Colbert faces four charges of aggravated assault, one count of criminal damage to property and one count of cruelty to children. This final charge is in relation to a shooting on Dec. 7, 2023, within the 1800 block of Cedar Avenue.
He is currently being held at the Bibb County Jail without bond.
The Sheriff’s Office also arrested an unnamed teenager in January in connection with the killing. He is facing three additional counts of aggravated assault in a shooting that took place on Jan. 11 in the 3800 block of Tela Place.
