Warner Robins police officers on leave after shooting, department says

They say the officers were responding to a call when gunfire was exchanged between them and a suspect.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Multiple Warner Robins police officers were placed on administrative leave after a shooting on Monday, according to a press release from the Warner Robins Police Department.

The release says officers responded to a call in the 200 block of North 6th Street around 7:00 p.m. on Monday. They say they found a man with a gun in the front yard of the home.

Per the report, the man fired his gun and attempted to force his way into the home. The release says gunfire was exchanged by both the man and the officers, and the man was shot.

They say the officers treated his injury before emergency services arrived. He was then taken to Houston Healthcare-Watson campus, according to the release. Right now his condition is unknown.

Warner Robins police secured the scene alongside the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol, per the release. They say Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation take over the case.

They said the decision to place the officers on administrative leave is based on agency policy. It is standard for any officer involved in a shooting, according to the release. They will be on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is continuing to investigate the situation. If anyone has relevant information, please contact the GBI Perry Office at (478) 987-4545 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
