Macon-Bibb County adding new cameras in 4 school zones, per report

They said two of the new cameras would be used to issue tickets, while the other two would only be used for citations over the first month.

MACON, Ga. — Four school zones will be used to enforce speeding laws starting Monday, Sept. 9, according to a release from Macon-Bibb County

They say cameras in the Vineville Academy of the Arts and Heritage Elementary School will now be used to issue speeding tickets.

Cameras have also been installed to the zones at the Academy for Classical Education (ACE) and Bernd Elementary School, according to the release. Those cameras will only be used to issue warnings until Oct. 21, when they will also be used to issue tickets.

The release says citations will only be issued from the cameras when a vehicle travels more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit in a school zone. The first citation will be $100, and each citation after that will be $150.

These citations will not show up on a person’s driving record nor be used for “points” with their insurance, per the release. All citations are reviewed by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to ensure its compliance with Macon-Bibb’s Code.

They say cameras are already being used to enforce the speed limit at Carter Elementary, Hartley Elementary, Heard Elementary, Springdale Elementary, Appling Middle & Northeast High, Ballard-Hudson Middle & Ingram-Pye Elementary, Rutland Middle & High, First Presbyterian Day School, Stratford Academy, Southwest High, Weaver Middle, Westside High, Southwest High and Windsor Academy.
