South Carolina man dead after accident in Macon, sheriff’s office said

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m., according to Georgia 511.

MACON, Ga. — A person is dead after a fatal accident on I-16 East, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to Georgia 511, all lanes have been opened on I-16 East since the crash.

According to the sheriff’s office, Keith Bridgett, 42, was driving a Dodge Ram on I-16 East around 1:15 p.m. The Mullins, South Carolina native collided with a semi-trailer truck. Bridgett was pronounced dead on the scene by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. Next of kin has been notified.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the semi-trailer was not hurt.

Jones added that a health issue might’ve been the cause of the Dodge Ram driver’s death and accident. He said he is waiting on an autopsy to determine that.

All lanes on I-16 East were closed for over two hours.

Anyone with more information can call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to speak with a Fatality Investigator.
