The group discussed voting law, voter education, voter protection, housing laws, evictions, probations and the criminal justice system

MACON, Ga. — The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People held a meeting on Saturday to talk about a wide range of topics.

The Macon-Bibb NAACP’s town hall meeting at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church brought out about 20 people to discuss the election and various local issues with the general public.

The topics discussed included an updated voting law, voter education, voter protection, housing laws, evictions, probations and the criminal justice system.

Gwenette Westbrook, the president of the Macon-Bibb NAACP, said these weekly town hall meetings will take place until November’s elections, and then their monthly meetings will resume after that.

Westbrook said that the purpose of the meetings themselves are to educate people in the community on how to deal with various issues, like housing, voting, voting rights, and the criminal justice system as a whole.
