A frightening farewell | Central Georgia says goodbye to the Haunted Montrose after 16 years

The Central Georgia attraction, the ‘Haunted Montrose’ is closing its doors after 16 years of screams, psychos, and monsters.

MONTROSE, Ga. — One of Central Georgia’s Halloween staples is giving a ghoulish goodbye. This is the last year for the Haunted Montrose, after 16 years of frights.

Sisters Samantha Rose and Cynthia Dutson say they’ve been going to Haunted Montrose for a decade.

“You might look at it and think it’s just the building, but there’s more behind the building,” Rose said.

Rose says she will always remember her favorite moments at Montrose.

“Me and my high school friends and we would come and scream together and have a good time. And it was just that camaraderie that we had together that we experienced something together as one,” Rose said.

Rose says she’s sad to see her child memories go.

“It brings back the old times, it brings back good times and it brings back the younger days when we were kids,” Rose said.

Founder Trey Cottle said in a statement he wants to spend more time with family and it’s time to close the doors. Michael Ivie, the director of Haunted Montrose, said they decided to end it with this 17th season back in June.

“So, with this being the last season we just appreciate everybody that’s come out,” Ivie said. “We had a lot of people come out last weekend and I think they had a really good time. We enjoy doing this and we’re glad everybody’s coming out to wish us a farewell.”

Haunted Montrose’s last day will be on Friday Nov. 1.
