Family counseling center in Macon holds Community Festival to learn more on children’s mental health

The Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia combined fun with learning, as they showed off the importance of children’s mental health while having a good time.

MACON, Ga. — The Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia looked to bring some family fun alongside an important message with a Community Festival on Saturday.

The event, in honor of Early Childhood Mental Awareness Month, was held to recognize the importance of mental health at early stages in children, while also providing a fun experience for families and the children that attended the event.

“The goal of the event is to raise awareness for early childhood mental health by including non-profit partners who will provide information and resources to those who attend,” FCCCG Executive Director Christy Henry said in a statement. “We are accomplishing this in conjunction with a free, fun and safe event for children and families.”

The free event was also held to honor the legacy of Chsandra Johnson, the late wife of Dominique Johnson, who helped put on the event.

They even brought out 20 different organizations to provide resources aimed at mental health. Some of the partners there include:

  • Kingdom Life
  • Urban CEO
  • MACON MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS, who had a yoga class and a drum circle
  • The RISE program
  • Mothers Nest

Alongside the many organizations, there were also fun activities and events for people to take advantage of. There was a bouncy house for the young ones and there was also free food.

Over 200 people attended and nearly 100 people volunteered for the event.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rosa Jackson Recreation Center on Maynard Street.
