Veterans Day is over, but the military discounts aren’t | Here’s what you need to know

Nearly 70 businesses around Warner Robins now have ‘Military Friendly Business’ stickers in their front windows. Find a list of them here.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — This Veterans Day, communities across Central Georgia thanked members of the armed forces with ceremonies and free meals, and the city of Warner Robins launched a new initiative that reminds military members they’re always appreciated.

It’s called the Military Friendly Business Initiative.

Now, throughout the city, you’ll see green stickers on about 70 businesses. The goal is to help military members find where they can receive a little extra gratitude for their service.

P Goy’s Thai and Sushi on South Houston Lake is one of the participating businesses.

Owner John Assongba says they use his wife’s recipes to serve authentic Thai food.

“Goy’s food is never too sweet, it’s more savory. It’s more authentic that way. It’s more delicious that way,” Assongba shared.

The couple took over the restaurant about two years ago, and along with the change in leadership and recipes, they changed some policies.

“When we took over. the previous owner didn’t do it. Some restaurants don’t do it, but for me it’s not optional,” he said. “If you’re going to be apart of the community you need to have a military discount.”

The restaurant advertises discounts Monday through Friday but Assongba says you can get a deal everyday.

“If they can make the sacrifice to serve we can make the sacrifice to honor them with a discount,” he said.

You’ll also find one of those stickers two doors down from P Goy’s over at El Mural Mexican Grill

“A lot of the things are authentic. Most of the recipes here at the restaurant are actually from the family,” Erick Anguiano said.

The family-owned business reaches a year since opening in December. Anguiano says they’ve always offered a discount for veterans.

“We know that they put their lives on the line and they put a lot of work to keep us safe,” he said.

They offer 10% discounts from Tuesday – Sunday and 15% on Monday.

“I am glad that it’s gonna be more publicized and everyone will be able to see that we are offering this to everyone in the military,” he said.
