A cloudy and rainy start to Thursday will clear up as we head into the evening
A front from the west will push in today and usher in drier air for a clear weekend ahead.
MACON, Ga. — Scattered light to steady showers are on the radar early this morning in central Georgia. These clusters of rain will continue to break apart as we head throughout the morning, where an isolated sprinkle shower could pass over during the afternoon. By the time we head into the evening, the frontal boundary driving all this rain will pass through and usher in some cooler and drier air ahead for the weekend. High temperatures today will range from the 50s farther north to a couple of degrees above the 70-degree mark in south-central Georgia where cloud cover will break apart sooner.
After the passage of this front this evening, we’ll dry out and remain below average for the start of the weekend. Highs will be in the upper 60s and eventually, the low 70s by Sunday, while lows will be nice and cool well into the 40s each morning. Finally, a nice Fall weekend looks to be on tap before we gradually warm back up to kick off next week.
There isn’t much change until we get into the midweek next week. Tropical moisture looks to push north in the Gulf but will be blocked from getting up into our neck of the woods by another front from the northwest. This moisture could still create some rain chances for late Tuesday into Wednesday, but the real story will be the much cooler air that this front brings in for late next week. Longer-range models have lows possibly dipping into the upper 30s and highs nestled in the 50s. We’ll continue to keep a close eye on the long-range forecast with a quiet stretch of weather ahead for the weekend and the beginning of next week.
